The following are typical questions asked by couples, and answered by our very own Wedding Officiant, Carrie Rivera...
1 How many weddings do you perform each month?
Sort of a hard question to answer since the answer is entirely dependent on a few factors but on any given month, I can marry up to 10 couples if its during the wedding season. Off season, maybe 1 or 2, making the number of weddings I perform each month sort of unstable and hard to predict.
2. Can we help create the ceremony?
Yes, in fact I encourage it. Typically, when a couple gets married in the traditional setting, the Couple has no say with regard to the verbiage of the ceremony. Not with Chicago JOP! I provide each couple with a fully customized wedding ceremony. During the initial FREE Wedding Consultation, if the couple hires me, and after signing our Wedding Services Contract, making the initial deposit or full payment, the Couple is then provided a Wedding Ceremony Plan, along with various samples of all of the elements that can go into the making their ceremony, I also call this "homework" for the Couple. The Couple then takes the information provided, and can choose what elements they wish to include into their very own ceremony. This process is usually done via email or fax. Once I receive all of the information needed, I put it all together and create a unique Wedding Ceremony, specifically tailored totally in accordance to each couples' preferences, which range from religious or secular attributes, traditions, customs as well as personal needs.
3. Do you permit flash photography to be taken during the ceremony?
Yes, and most professional photographers will be able to take wonderful pictures of your wedding, without interfering with the ceremony.
4. Do you have a back up just in case you are unable to attend and perform the ceremony?
Yes I do. We hire "back-up officiants" only on an emergency basis. If I am otherwise unable to marry a couple it is because I'm either very ill, contagious, or hospitalized. My assistant will call and arrange a back up wedding officiant, at no extra cost to the Couple, and they will be sent or given the Couples final draft of their wedding ceremony. Each and every backup officiant that works on behalf of Chicago JOP, fully understands our company policies as well as how important our Couples needs are.
5. What do you wear?
I usually wear all back, slacks, with a white or black scarf. Please visit our Couples Pix webpage to see a few pictures of me and other couples I've married.
6. What is your total fee? Do you charge extra to travel or file the marriage license?
All of our pricing for wedding officiant services are listed on our Officiant Pricing page. There is no charge for filing the marriage license as once the wedding ceremony is performed, I'm legally charged with filling out the marriage license (of which a copy is provided to the couple) then mailing the original to the clerk's office of the county in which the license was issued, all within 14 days after the wedding.
7. Do you guarantee that you will perform our ceremony?
Though nothing in life is guaranteed, Chicago JOP uses clearly written contracts which are easy to understand, specifically states the services being provided, all the fees involved, as well as important legal information which protects both our Couples and us as well. Chicago JOP is very serious in our commitment to providing the best customer service for our Couples. We can only guarantee that I (or a back-up officiant, in case of an emergency), will marry each couple on their very special day, and that our very best is provided for each and every wedding I officiate.
8. Do you have any restrictions?
Well, I do have one. I won't marry a Couple at a graveyard, and yes, I've been asked. Sorry, just can't do that. But I do encourage to call and ask me any questions if they are unsure if I can marry them at a particular venue.
9. Do you provide a "rehearsal" and is there a fee for this?
Yes, I can attend a rehearsal with the couple and their wedding party, if the venue is up to 5 miles from 60641. If more than this, I do charge a small Rehearsal Fee.
10. Do you marry same sex couples?
Yes! I marry all engaged couples.
11. Is Chicago JOP a government office or in any way actual judges or justices of the peace?
NO NO NOPE....Chicago Justice of the Peace Inc is our COMPANY NAME ONLY, providing Wedding Services only. I am not an actual judge, nor a "justice of the peace". Nor am I or our small family business affiliated with any governmental office or entity. Chicago Justice of the Peace Inc, is our legal corporation name. We are a small privately owned wedding service provider. I have been ordained a minister, and our company has been legally chartered through Universal Ministries in Milford, IL. My credentials are always readily available for inspection by anyone.
